Equality and Diversity
As well as recognising the importance of UK and European law we believe that diversity is beneficial to any organisation, including our own, and that promoting equality is an opportunity, not merely an obligation. We are committed to following through this recognition in practical terms.
Therefore we maintain the following principles in dealings with all our stakeholders.
NON-DISCRIMINATION
We will make no discrimination on grounds of race, colour, nationality, national origin, ethnic origin, religion, culture, gender (including reassignment), marital status, sexual orientation, age, disability or physical characteristics.
In business relationships the only criteria for fostering such relationships are those linked with suitability for the task in hand. For example, whether a supplier can supply suitable goods or services at a competitive price, or whether a potential employee is capable of performing the tasks required in a job description. Selection for employment or the benefits of employment (such as training, personal development and career progression) will be solely on the basis of aptitude and job-related skills.
MUTUAL RESPECT
We will always promote flexibility of working so that those with particular religious or cultural traditions can follow those traditions, given only that they notify work colleagues and/or their supervisor of their intentions in a timely manner, (the nature of which is to be agreed at the commencement of employment), and that total working hours are maintained.
We recognise rights of conscience in regard to ethical matters, whether or not these are linked to a particular religious or cultural belief system.
POSITIVE ACTION
In areas where we have control or influence, we will take positive action against any discrimination that occurs, whether maliciously or inadvisedly.
Employees whose behaviour reflects a discriminatory or non-respectful attitude to others will be given two verbal warnings followed by a written warning and ultimately dismissal. Intimidation, bullying and harrassment will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
We will also seek to avoid inadvertent discrimination against those with disabilities by ensuring as far as possible that premises we occupy excede the statutory requirements concerning mobility, access, health and safety and general facilities. In addition, we will assist with screen filters, specialist seating/desking and office logistics when necessary.
This policy will be reviewed annually.
