We recognise that the internet is best regarded as a universal medium to which all should have access as far as possible. To this end we regard accessibility issues as fundamental to our internet work.
VISUAL
We will ensure that web sites we design follow sound coding principles that will offer maximum flexibility in:
- allowing the user to adjust text size in the browser
- offering no impediment to text reading devices
- permitting modification in response to particular user requirements
We will also attend to details such as:
- ensuring that 'alt text' is available on graphics
- avoiding uneven spacing of words
- allowing sufficient spacing of material to avoid unnecessary visual confusion
MANUAL DEXTERITY
We seek to avoid navigational devices that require intricate manipulation.
ALTERNATIVE PRESENTATION
When information can only be conveyed or demonstrated by visual material such as graphs, animation, technical drawings, video or visual art, we will include as much alternative explanatory material as possible.
Any audio material that is essential to understanding will be accompanied by a transcript.
DIALOGUE
We will respond as fully as possible to any issues raised by those who access our sites, whether individuals, groups, support organisations or government bodies.
CLIENT AWARENESS
All clients will be made aware of our understanding of these matters and encouraged to view them in a positive manner when formulating their own site specifications. Exclusion is to be regarded as poor commercial sense as well as ethically unsound.
EXTENSIONS
These principles will also be followed as far as possible in the execution of non-internet projects.
