Which domain should I choose? Domain names have unique endings that represent their country of origin and the sort of organisation (commercial, educational, milirtary etc.) that the domain name represents.

Commercial organisations should choose, if possible, .com or .co.uk. The former implies either a company based in the US or an international company; the later reveals UK roots, which in many cases may be preferable.

If .com and .co.uk are taken, the next best choice is .uk.com. The new .biz is also a possibility for a commercial organisation, but for UK companies may be too 'American'.

More general sites could use .net or .uk.net (the option .net.uk is reserved for UK-based internet companies).

The domain .info implies an information site (directory, help site etc.) or the information section for a company or product.

The domain .org and .org.uk are suitable for non-profit organisations. As with .com and .co.uk, UK organisations may be better selecting the domain that shows the country of origin. Since these domains are less well known, organisations who choose a .org domain as most accurately reflecting their status also often register the equivalent .com or .co.uk as people may type these into a browser.
